Ivy Van Dusen

Right now there is a little voice in the back of my head, softly screaming, telling me how dumb I am for not writing my 6-page essay that's due tomorrow. But I will just ignore it for a few more minutes while I catch up on life.
You guys, life is crazy lately. I never knew how many different things go into planning a wedding. Seriously, there is just so dang much! Don't get me wrong, I love being engaged and I CANT WAIT TO GET MARRIED.
But.
Once we get these big important things outta the way (where we are going to live, dates, booking venues, photographers, honeymoon, etc), I think it will be nice to just get to figure out the details.
Right now I am running around like a mad woman. School is hard and sucks up a lot of time. Then there's work. Then, planning a wedding is hard work. But it is even harder when you are in a different state than the whole rest of your family, and where you are going to get married.
AH.
So, it was soooo nice to sneak home this weekend and just chill and get things figured out.

One pretty big thing that I got figured out was my dress! With the help of all these lovely ladies of course :) They all came to the bridal store and watched me try on dress after dress.
I don't know about them, but I had a ton of fun.
I honestly didn't think I was going to be able to find a pretty, modest dress in Arizona.
But, to my amazement, I found the PERFECT one.
All these years of watching Say Yes to The Dress finally paid off.
Can't wait to wear it for real!

I also got to spend time with my favorite guys at an ASU football game.
They are the greatest brothers the world has ever seen and I wish I could just bring them to Utah with me.
All in all, it was a very successful weekend. I was shocked when I stepped off the plane early this morning and it was 50 degrees. I was very tempted to just turn right around.
But I am back to be with my cute fiance.
So, I am good :)

Life lately has been INSANE.
So much fun, but SO much.
My mind is going 100 mph. I know I need to catch up on my blogging, but here are some little bits of what has been going on up here in P-town....

These are my cute roommates! They are so much fun. I am really sad to leave them after just one semester, but way excited to get to live with...

...THIS GUY. We love cheap student bowling downstairs at BYU. We also love modeling the hot bowling shoes. Also I beat Kody that night which is a VERY big deal.

Junk food is my life lately (just workin towards that hot wedding bod).

Kody turned 22 a few weeks ago. Have I ever said how much I love him? Well I love him a lot.

Lots of late night pool-playing with goofy people....and just stuff like that.
Halla. Life is good.

I know, I know. I am still in shock too.
After dating for a good 9ish months, Kody asked me to marry him! Woohoo!
----
I am way way excited for everything, but everyone keeps asking me all about him.
So here we go.
Last October during my freshman year at BYU (that is probably the most cliche start to a marriage story HA), I went with my roommates to a football game. There were some guys sitting behind us and the whole night we all kinda goofed off. They asked us for our numbers by the end. Ya, they were pretty goofy guys but they were cute (especially the one with darker hair). A few weeks later we went on our first date to Slab pizza. Since then we have eaten a lot more pizza, laughed a TON, kissed a bunch, and have had so much fun doing dumb things and getting to know each other.
So fast forward to this past Friday.
We knew for a little while that we eventually wanted to get married. On Labor day we went and looked at some rings (one of the funnest things I've ever done). Then a few days ago, he told me that he got one but it wouldn't be done for another week. I totally believed him. But turns out he was just being sneaky and actually had already bought it. Then Friday rolls around and he tells me that we should go out to dinner. Being the out-to-dinner lover that I am, I was down. After a classy dinner at Chili's, he says we should go on a drive up the canyon. Quick rewind to last spring, one day we got pizza and went for a drive up the canyon in Springville and found a super pretty secret spot and just chilled and ate pizza there. Okay, continue.
"The sunset will be really pretty up there" he says. So we go.
Another rewind, when we first started dating we were talking about cooking and he told me that the only thing that he knew how to make was Cheerios. So I told him he should make me some, but then he would joke around and say "Nahh we have to be like super duper serious if I am going to make you a meal that classy." So that just became a dumb little inside joke thing between us. Okay, go again.
So we are sitting in the car in our little spot, and he says he needs to get something from the trunk. (Okay at this point I am starting to get what was happening). Then he calls me over and in his trunk it's all laid out super nice. There are a dozen roses, and a bowl of cheerios! Then he got down on one knee and it was just about the cutest thing that has ever taken place.

I seriously cannot stop looking at this ring. He did such a good job getting it...it is way more than anything I ever could dream of. And so is he :) I couldn't be happier and I can't wait to marry my best friend.
Time to put all that pinteresting to use!

It's that time of year again.
The fun yet crappy time to say goodbye to my family and home, and say hello to round two of college. It is the perfect mix of sad but totally exciting, all at the exact same time.
Yes, all that life right now consists of is textbooks, schedule-changing, reading boring things and going to bed early (well, kind of early).
But let's not forget about those super fun last couple weeks of Summer 2014, which were some of the very best of all time!

I really wish I had more time to write about every little thing that happened but here are the main highlights:
-daily lunch dates with my cute mom
-Being reunited with Kody after a long summer apart and being able to hang out in 110 degree Mesa for a whole week. Yay!
-Family mountain/fishing trips
-Hiking Camelback mountain in the dead of summer
-Roadtrip with kody to the Grand Canyon
-Lake Powell with the Van Dusens

So now here I am, back in Provo, studying my bum off and eating lots of Mac n cheese.

So, I just started my sophomore year of college.
I certainly don't know everything there is to know about being a smart and savy college student, but I do know some things. I should probably make a post with all of my little tips, but since it is the beginning of the semester for most people, I will talk about the most relevant tip right now. Here it goes.
Rent your books.
College is so expensive.
Paying for tuition, a laptop, and food can be a lot, especially when you are right outta high school.
And on top of that, all of a sudden, you actually have to BUY textbooks. When each class requires up to four books, things can get very, very pricey.
Ya, it's rough.

Luckily, this year, I decided to rent a few of my books, and oh my goodness you guys, it is THE way to go.
Instead of buying my $300 geography atlas book, I rented it for the semester for like 14 bucks. Because lets be honest, I will never open that thing again after this class is over. Renting books can literally save the average college student hundreds, even thousands of dollars a year.

The book I rented this year was from CampusBookRentals.com. I like them because they have free shipping both ways, you can highlight all you want in them, and they donate part of their proceeds to a sweet organization called Operation Smile. Plus if you do buy a book from somewhere else, you can sell it to them with their new program on RentBack.com

Renting books- it's a total win-win. If you are a college student, do it and you will be so glad you did.

Annnd now it is time to go learn about the ancient literature (yawn).
