Ivy Van Dusen

Last year, when I was just about to graduate high school, I heard this quote ^ for the first time at a little "Intro-to-Relief Socity-night" thing, and ever since then it has really stuck with me.
I mostly love it because of how true it is. Especially that first line: women of God can never be like women of the world.
I don't think very many people like to admit it, but it isn't possible to be a woman of God while giving in to the demands of the world.
There is a big, big difference in what the world sees as acceptable and what God sees as acceptable.
Women of the world see money, perfect hair, expensive makeup, being perfectly skinny, instagram followers, success with guys, and "being hot" all as ways of measuring how valuable their lives are.
It's not to say that those things are necessarily bad, but they do not at all contribute to the value of ones life.
In all honesty, women who think like this really are a dime a dozen.
Women of God know that what really is valuable are the things in this quote. Kindness, faith, purity, etc.
I have such a hard time remembering this and not getting caught up wanting to be more like the women on the fitness category on Pinterest.
Be different, in a good way :)
Anyways, that is the end of my ramblings.

  • the sunsets- like seriously, they are some of the most beautiful things in this world. every day!
  • the food- being on your own for a year makes you realize how much free things you took for granted growing up...especially FOOD. this realization leads to daily face-stuffing.
  • the movies- my family has good movies. namely the Titanic, which I have already watched way too much for one summer...especially since it came out 17 years ago. Will I ever get tired of it? So far, no.
  • babies- there aren't very many of them in Provo. but here i get to play with 10 or more of them every Sunday at nursery. it is the cutest part of my week.
  • tan-ness- I have never been as white as I got this past fall/winter in Utah. I'm not some crazy tan-freak, but I do appreciate a little bit of color.
  • my big bed- holy moly. going from a twin-sized dorm room bed to a queen is a really wonderful feeling. Not to mention the fact that I don't have to get a running start to jump onto a bed that is taller than I am.
  • dr.pepper- tons of it. in my fridge. all the time. HALLELUJAH.
  • bros- they drive me absolute nuts sometimes but I know I am going to miss the "ivy, waaaake up already and lets play Madden" every morning, the splashing in the pool, the endless amounts of energy, and the hilarious-ness of the two boys I'm lucky enough to call my brothers.
  • the high-school crew- most of my friends, if not all, didn't move up to Provo and although most of them are out on missions, it is SO fun/funny catching up with the ones that are here. so much can happen in a year.
  • time- time here seems to go by a lot slower than it does at college where there is constantly tons of things to get done. it is so nice being able to just chill.

wow i love home.

For the past 9 months or so, I have felt super busy working and going to school. So now that I don't really have a lot going on, I find myself more approving of my summertime laziness.
Yes, I feel kind of ridiculous wearing shorts and t-shirts all day everyday and watching episode after episode of Real Housewives of Orange County, but I know that in another month or two I will be be in up to my neck in homework, so I have no shame.
Yesterday Haley came over. We went to the mall, got lunch, ate ice cream and all that good stuff, and it was fabulous.

Lately my life has consisted of eating, sleeping, watching TV and baking random things. Then I wake up and do it all again.
It's not too exciting being bored, but I know that when school starts again I'll be wishing I was bored, sooo I might as well soak it up.
Anyways.
Yesterday I got July's issue of Better Homes and Gardens Magazine (my favorite), and as soon as I saw the cover, I knew I had to try and make these yummy little things.
They turned out super good, and I already had the ingredients. I just had to go get some vanilla ice cream and lemon curd, which sounds weird but you can find it at almost any grocery store.

Now please excuse me while I sit on Pinterest for the next hour.

This wonderful 4th of July weekend was spent in California, spending all day every day at the beach, getting slammed over and over again by giant waves (and loving it), hanging out with Kody, buying lots of aloe vera for everyone's sunburns, and doing one of the most American things there is to do- eating Mexican food.
I've been home for about 2 hours and I am already having beach withdraws.
I really do love Arizona, but when it is 75 degrees there, and 110 here, I often wonder what I am still doing here.

Till next time, golden coast!
